    Attend the hot topic sessions of your choice on Thursday afternoon to explore current issues that have significant county implications. Attendees can choose to attend one session during each time block.

     

    Block #1: 2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. 

    Exploring the 2024 Tax Reform Package – House Bill 581, the comprehensive property and sales tax reform package of the 2024 legislative session, will be posed to voters in this year’s general election. This session will explore the many components and implications of this proposal. - Olympia 1-2

    Housing Resources with the Department of Community Affairs – Housing affordability and accessibility continue to remain a major issue for many Georgia communities. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs will share information on their various housing assistance programs.  Recent legislation on the housing front will also be discussed.  - Parthenon 1-2

    The Future of Public Safety is Now with Next Generation 911 – Next Generation 911 is a digital, internet protocol (IP)-based system that will replace the analog 911 infrastructure and will enhance emergency number services to create a faster, more resilient system.   This session will provide a status update on Next Gen 911 implementation in Georgia and what is expected for the 2025 legislative session. - Parthenon 1-2

    Cherokee County’s Investor-Owned Housing Analysis – Georgia’s metropolitan areas are facing an unprecedented wave of institutional investors buying up existing and new entry-level, single-family housing stock and turning it into rental housing. Learn how Cherokee County has identified these investor-owned homes and how its analysis can be duplicated in other counties to better understand how this has impacted the availability of owner-occupied housing. - Olympia 1-2
